This bottle was located by store owner at a colonial site in Eastern Virginia in tidal waters. The Colonist had several ways of opening the bottles which included cutting the stringer or lip off in order to remove the cork. The bottles usually contain river material inside the bottles, i.e., mud, sand, gravel and more. Since the bottles are 300-350 years old they are fragile and should only be picked up by the bottom as the weight is stressful on bottle necks. This bottle is in fantastic shape and completely whole including string on lip of bottle.
