Nathaniel Mills engraved card case English - Birmingham -1849 in sterling silver

Offered for sale by Caspar’s Place is
a Victorian sterling silver calling card case, complete with chain, made in 1849 by Nathaniel Mills & Sons of Birmingham, England.
It is decorated with the early engine turned engraving for which the junior Nathaniel Mills was noted.
The case is marked with a lion passant guardant for sterling; a bust of Queen Victoria for the era; an anchor for assayed in Birmingham; "A" for made in 1849; "NM" for Nathaniel Mills. This mark was used by Mills from 1826 through 1857.
This card case is monogrammed with what appears to be an ornate letter "B" in the middle of one side.  It is in pretty good estate condition, although it has some black and whitish spotting which may or may not come off with a thorough polishing.  In addition, it has the ordinary patina of old tarnish and fine scratches to be expected with age and use.  The chain which is attached to this case is broken in one place, but this would be an easy fix by any jeweler.  The piece’s price reflects its condition.  This card case will make a lovely addition to any silver collection.
The card case weighs approximately 1.515 troy ounces.  It is roughly 3.25” long by 2.25” wide and 0.25" deep.
